Hippodrome Theatre Baltimore

Opened in 1914 as a vaudeville theater, the Hippodrome Theater in Baltimore seats 2300 people and positions itself as the foremost vaudeville house as well as a movie theater. During the 1970s and particularly the 1980s the Hippodrome steadily lost patronage and resultant revenue. In 1990 the curtains were finally down. A later restoration project for historic buildings has brought a new lease of life for the theater and the Western National Bank of 1887, the Eutaw Savings Bank of 1888 and a newly constructed building have been merged together as performing arts venue christened as the France Merrick Performing Arts Center.
