Visiting Baltimore Maritime Museum - A Glimpse at Historic Museum Ships and Lighthouse
Baltimore Maritime Museum is situated in the Inner Harbor located along the banks of River Patapsco in the American State Maryland. Its inner harbor was once a famous manufacturing center. These days, it is renowned for entertainment and shopping and also a major tourist center.
The Museum puts on display accumulation of three historic museum ships. The exhibits at the Museum include- US Sloop of War constellation, US Submarine Torsk and, US Coast Guard Cutter Taney. Baltimore's Historic Ships exemplify virtually impressive compendium of military vessels of the crew of the US Constellation.
You also get audio tour wands which provide you with the information about the life on the deck. In 1986 Taney was withdrawn in Baltimore and was turned as the Coast Guard. Submarine Torsk is the most remarkable vessel among the historic ship collection.
The Museum building is accompanied with a light house called the Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse. Just as we know that Ships in olden days used Pole Star to locate their way and the lighthouses to locate harbors, the Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse must have played a very important role at that time when the harbor was functioning.
It, in fact, was characterized as the entrance point to Baltimore Harbor and also to Patapasco River. This 40 feet high lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in Chesapeake which was built in 1856, that is about 150 years ago.
