Metro System

The 'Maryland Transit Association' has taken a lot of steps to ensure that Baltimore stands out among the rest of the cities of the world in terms of its transportation infrastructure. It has started a lot of new projects which aim to make Baltimore a truly world class city in terms of its transport features. One of the major features of in-city Baltimore city travel is the 'Baltimore metro'.

Initially envisaged with a goal to ease the congestion on the road networks and the expressways, the metro now has a daily earning of around thousands of dollars due to the forty to fifty thousand people that commute through the system everyday.

The most encouraging feature of the metro service is the fact that it cuts down the travel time. So if you earlier reached south Baltimore from any point in the city in an hour or so, it will only take you 15 -20 min to cover the same distance on the metro network.

With a minimum stoppage time of 40 sec and adequate number of stations, the metro network has come to the most preferred form of travel within the city. People also have the option of parking their cars at any of the stations and then going to any place they want via metro.

Similar to the concept of the 'Light rail', the 'Baltimore Metro' was earlier named the 'Baltimore Rail Rapid Transit Scheme'. The scheme was started in the city not later than the 80's. People greeted the metro system with a warm heart and the venture proved to be extremely successful for the 'MTA'.

One who travels Baltimore for most part of the day and his job requires him to cover large parts of the city, should be thankful to the 'MTA' for this initiative.
