A View on Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore

The John Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore is the prestigious medical wing of John Hopkins University. John Hopkins Medical Institution (JHMI) collectively houses School of Nursing and Bloomberg School of public health. It is located in the East Baltimore campus of the university. The school also provides many opportunities in community service.

This particular school of medicine is affiliated with Hopkins Hospital. This hospital is a major educational institute where the students are given hands on training on various clinical and medical procedures foreseen as necessary in the future. There are other hospitals contributing to the cause of formation of an academic health science center with John Hopkins School. Some of the contributing units are Sinai Hospital, Howard County General Hospital and Greater Baltimore Medical Center.

The school has been ranked as the nation's premier medical school in terms of the amount of quality research which is carried out here. The school receives many grants and awards from the National Institute of Health. The school has indeed showed the way for many medical schools since its inception in 1893. It was the first graduate level medical school to admit women students beside men.

After crossing the phase of matriculation the students here are dispersed to four different colleges named after famous faculty members. These colleges are Florence Sabin, Vivien Thomas, Daniel Nathans, and Helen Taussing. To impart quality education and individual attention students are designated to faculty advisors within the college. Each advisor has five students to guide through the degree time and make then competent in all types of medical and clinical skills.
